To our friends and supporters,
A big thank you from the board and staff of ARTLIES to all those who helped us celebrate our 10th anniversary. A highlight of the anniversary year was the always provocative Dave Hickey who inaugurated our Critics' Lecture Series, co-sponsored by the Glassell School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. A special thanks to ARTLIES board member Cecily Horton who very generously hosted a glamorous dinner party for our charter Tale Spinner-level members after the Hickey lecture. We are especially grateful to all of our charter members who are listed below.
ARTLIES began as a volunteer effort and evolved into a labor of love, with a committed core staff and board. However, if we are to continue to serve the ever-growing contemporary art community effectively, we too must continue to evolve; our new Membership Program is designed to help us do so. The program's primary goal, like that of the journal, is to broaden the audience for contemporary art by providing a forum for the discussion of relevant arts-related issues and ideas. The journal also provides documentation of art activity across the state, while the membership programming will be more focused on helping arts enthusiasts and collectors better understand the role of the artists, curators and critics who fuel that activity.
A successful membership program will also demonstrate to our benefactors, both governmental and foundation based, that the public at large supports the mission of ARTLIES. Funds raised through our Membership Program will provide additional administrative support, ensuring professionalism and editorial continuity for the journal and the expanded programming.
Subscription to the journal is now a benefit of membership. I urge you to become a charter member of ARTLIES so you don t miss out on a single issue. Members will receive invitations to behind-the-scenes events with ask-the-experts opportunities. A spring symposium on aspects of collecting contemporary art is in the works and our Critics' Lecture Series will resume in the fall.
Again, thank you for your support. Together we can make a difference.
Toni Beauchamp
President, Board of ARTLIES
